Pip and the Sleepy Stars
A read-aloud bedtime story, about 2 minutes.
Pip the little bunny lived in a small, cozy burrow at the edge of a quiet meadow. Every single night, right before bed, Pip liked to look up at the sky.
Tonight the sky was soft and dark, like a warm blanket sprinkled with sugar. One by one, the stars began to wake up and shine.
"Hello, little stars," Pip whispered. The stars blinked back, slow and gentle. Blink, blink, blink.
A soft, round cloud floated down from high above and curled itself into the cozy shape of a boat. Pip climbed in, snug and warm, and pulled a little blanket up close.
Up, up, up the little cloud boat rose, soft and slow. Up, up, up, past the treetops, past the hill, past the sleepy owl in the old oak tree.
The moon smiled a round, silver smile down at Pip. "Hello, Pip," said the moon, in a voice like a warm hug. "Are you ready for a slow, quiet ride tonight?"
Pip nodded and gave a tiny, sleepy yawn. The cloud boat drifted gently past the first star, who glowed a warm, soft gold. Then past the second star, who glowed a soft, gentle blue. Then past the third star, who glowed a warm, quiet pink.
Each little star hummed the very same little tune, low and sweet and slow. Hmmmm. Hmmmm. Hmmmm.
Pip's eyes grew heavy, heavier than they had ever been. The cloud boat rocked, side to side, side to side, soft and slow, just like Mama's arms.
Far, far below, the whole meadow slept. The tall trees slept. The little burrow, with its warm, soft bed, waited patiently in the dark, holding its quiet all night long.
The moon hummed too, low and slow, and gently tucked a soft blanket of starlight over Pip's tired little shoulders.
Down, down, down, the little cloud boat floated home again, soft and slow. Down, down, down, past the sleepy owl, past the hill, back to the little burrow.
Pip climbed into bed at last, warm and snug and safe. Outside the little window, the stars kept their gentle watch, blinking soft and slow, all through the quiet night.
"Goodnight, stars," Pip whispered, eyes closing slowly. "Goodnight, moon. Goodnight, soft dark sky." And Pip drifted off to sleep at last, safe and warm, dreaming of quiet stars and soft, slow, sleepy clouds.
